Even moderately pressing the gas paddle, the transmission won't shift from 1 to 2 until I'm almost at 5000 rpm. Pretty annoying.

Strange that installing the HD2 kit made things worse; I suspect there was a problem with the boost valve. What year is your 4L60E? I recommend the Sonnax boost valve even when installing the HD2 kit.

Have them check and install your car updates to at least eliminate software as the problem tho' hopefully it will help.
