A decision tree is a flowchart-like structure in which each internal node represents a "test" on an attribute (e.g. whether a coin flip comes up heads or tails), each branch represents the outcome of the test, and each leaf node represents a class label (decision taken after computing all attributes). Decision trees are sparse. I figured it out empirically. With my limited knowledge of math, I know that dense graphs have most nodes connected and spares have very few. I made a realistic decision tree of 16 nodes, as dense as I could make it up. Then I put it in a matrix. In a 16x16 matrix (256 cells) there were only 15 connections (5.9%).
